Born in Istanbul, Serdar Tanyeli completed primary, secondary and high school in Ankara College. He began taking photos in middle school with the Yashica 44 his father gave him. In high school came a new camera, a 35mm Petri, and a growing passion for photography. In 1974, he started to study Journalism and Public Relations in Istanbul University. During his studies, he worked as a news reporter and a photo journalist. He graduated in 1978. In 1977, while he was still studying, he started working for the Istanbul Public Fine Arts Academy, Cinema - TV Institute. His work involved all the different stages of photography, from the film-washing lab to technical processes in cinema.
He entered the advertising sector in 1981 as a photographer for Yorum Agency. In 1984, he became Ahmet Kayacık's assistant, who was one of the best advertisiment photographers of the time. The period he worked for Ahmet Kayacık has been very important for Serdar's career. In 1985, he founded his first studio, Kare Photography, with a partner. In 1991, he was a partner of Proffesional Photography Services. He has been shooting at Serdar Tanyeli Photo Services since 1997. He has won 7 Crystal Apples, 1 Red and 4 success awards for his work in advertising. Over the years, he has taught Advertisement Photography classes at Mimar Sinan University and Bahçeşehir University.
Since 2014, PPR and Daylight Films have been representing Serdar Tanyeli.
